Project Description

The aim of these projects set out by NHS Fife was to rationalise its estate so that it aligns with clinical requirements in terms of location, function and quality. The estate also needed to support NHS Fife staff to allow them to do the best job they can whilst providing an environment that meets patient’s and visitor’s expectations. In order to deliver this vision, the Estates Strategy is closely linked with NHS Fife’s Clinical Strategy. Once this vision had been understood, NHS Fife proceeded to engage with Hub East Central Scotland on the requirements for the new Kincardine and Lochgelly Health Centre. The Design needed to be considerate to find a balance between aesthetics and function. NHS Fife are taking an active lead in environmental sustainability in their brief by setting a 59% reduction in C02 compared against the 2015 energy targets. Early discussions between Fife and Hub also outlined the further need for the building to be all electric as the grid aims to be fully decarbonised by 2030 which meant the inclusion of point of use heaters and air source heat pumps etc. These aspirations have been fully considered and incorporated by the design team and the design currently meets the requirements set out by NHSF
